To initialise a Ruby on Rails app

Today I’m going to summarise how to initialise a RoR. Many thanks to

Ruby on Rails Tutorial Learn Web Development with Rails by Michael Hartl

Here we are using ruby 2.0 and rails 4.0.0

Create RoR app

Firstly we create a new app

rails new sample_app --skip-test-unit

Working with git

We would use github to manager our code. Create a new repository in github without README. Then do

git init
git add .
git commit -m "Initial commit"
git remote add origin git@github.com:USERNAME/APP_NAME.git
git push -u origin master

Update Gemfile

Update secret token

Edit config/initializers/secret_token.rb

SampleApp::Application.config.secret_key_base = secure_token

Config the app

Edit config/application.rb

config.assets.precompile += %w(*.png *.jpg *.jpeg *.gif)
config.action_view.field_error_proc = Proc.new { |html_tag, instance| 
  "#{html_tag}".html_safe 
}

Initialise Rspec

rails generate rspec:install

Deploy to heroku

heroku create
rake assets:precompile
git add .
git commit -m "Add precompiled assets for Heroku"
git push heroku master
heroku rename XXXX

Then, we are done, wow~
